The New Active Senior

Due to the baby boomer generation rapidly moving into retirement and an overall increase in life-expectancy, seniors will represent 20 percent of the population in the next 25 years. So it’s no surprise that senior living options are on the minds of many.

In 1990 nearly 8.1% of seniors lived in an assisted care or nursing home facility. But since then, the number has dropped almost 3% as seniors choose to join nurturing and vibrant communities that are close in proximity to community resources, such as shopping, life-long learning and wellness centers, and environmental assets, such as state parks and oceans, that will allow them to stay active and independent as long as possible. In addition, seniors are expecting their new homes to come with luxury features, such as high ceilings, expansive windows, well-appointed kitchens, high-end master baths, outdoor patios or decks and fitness facilities, but with limited maintenance requirements.

Over 15,000 active senior communities have been developed in the United States in response to the increase in retired Americans. ConTrak recently served as the owner’s representative for a 30-unit senior living apartment complex located in Immokalee, Florida. The 30,000 square foot, two-story development is owned by United Church Homes in Marion, Ohio and boasts scenic surroundings with quaint lifestyle amenities for the active senior. ConTrak will soon begin work as an owner’s representative on three additional senior communities for United Church Homes. ConTrak is excited to be part of this upcoming movement and hopes to continue developing senior housing.
